Now how do YOU get one? Well, I'll tell ya!
1. Choose the image you'd like to use as your button. I'd make it no bigger than 200 pixels wide so it fits on the average sidebar.
2. Upload your cool new button to the image hosting site of your choice. (I use Photobucket, but it doesn't matter.)
3. In another tab, log into your Blogger account and go to the Page Elements page. Click on "Add a Gadget" and select HTML/JavaScript
4. Copy and paste the following code in the text area:
5. In Photobucket (or wherever you chose to store your button), copy the URL or direct link and paste it in both places where the code says YOUR BUTTON LOCATION.
6. Replace the words YOUR BLOG ADDRESS with...your blog address. :)
7. You can change the size of the box below your button by adjusting the numbers 4 (rows) and 22 (columns). You don't have to, but I just thought I'd let you know.
8. Build your blogging empire!
*I have a bunch of blogging tutorials lined up so let me know if there is something in particular you would like to know and I'll add it to the list!

ReplyDeleteOk...so i figured it out! It would help if I would follow the directions exactly! Thank God for computer-smart people like you! Thanks for this awesome tutorial! YOU ROCK!
ReplyDeleteHi, I found your blog while searching for the 'grab my button' keywords (I also have a tutorial). I noticed your image is 200 wide and some blog sidebars may have a problem. I just published a post on my WP blog to assist with this. Basically tell readers they can use size attributes to shrink to another size. e.g. add this after the end quote for img src
ReplyDeleteheight="125" width="125" Since yours is square, they can use 150 x 150 or any other square re-sizing! I actually put the 125 size on my blogspot blog and it looks fine!
P.S. I love that you give free blog design makeovers or touchups ...
Thank you thank you thank you for this tutorial!! I have been wanting to know how to do this for AGES!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! Your blog and your "shoppe" is wonderful! I'm so glad I found you!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Megan,
ReplyDeleteIs there an easy way or like a 10-step way to make your blog a three column instead of two? Did we already talk about this? Anyhow, thought that would be a good tutorial. (Of course, since I am trying to figure out how to do it!) LOL!
thanks alot .......... a BIG BEAR HUG!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYEAH!!! I DID IT AT LAST !!!!! thank u again
love you
OH MY GOODNESS I FINALLY DID IT!! I HAVE A BUTTON!! COME GET MY BUTTON! =)
ReplyDeletehey shabby blog, did u use illustrator to make the image for buttons? i did, and it turned out blurry
ReplyDeleteplease please reply, n i am delighted graphic designers such as u are here to help us out to make the prettiest blogs!
You are awesome! I love your tutorials, so much! You're really making me look good! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering how to make a button be a link. So that when they click on the "Follow Me" tag, it will lead them directly to my twitter page, for instance. If you could do a tutorial about making "clicky buttons," that'd be great. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I've been wanting to do this for a long time!
ReplyDeleteYaaay! I did it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of your help! I'm just starting a blog for our business, and your products as well as your tutorials have been such a giant help!
ReplyDeleteCould you please let us know how to remove the lines that show up between gadgets in the sidebars? I put your tags on my page, but they're so far removed from the actual archives and labels below it thanks to the spacing and line. That would be really great to know how to fix! Thanks for everything!
Megan,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and it's helped me so much!! I'm wanting to make a button, but I'm having a terrible time figuring it out, even with this tutorial. I don't know how to use photobucket, and can't seem to get the photo to work. I just finally gave up and placed it as a large graphic at the bottom of my blog. I'd love it if you would be able to help me, keeping in mind that I'm really not very tech savy and could use any and all guidance you would be willing to offer!
Thanks so much,
Sasha
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I've looked all over for instructions on how to do this and it's right here! I've used several of your other tutorials and let me say you ROCK!!!!!!!! They're easy to understand and use and I love them and you, LOL! Keep 'em coming--we need you!!! Your blinkie is on my blog!

First, thanks for ALL the hard work you put into tell us all that. I did as you said, but for the part when your suppose to "put YOUR BUTTON LOCATION" in those areas, I wasn't quite sure what to put on there. I thought, "maybe she means the name of the document" but I did that and it didn't work. Please tell me what I did wrong. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHonestly, it took a few hours for me to get this done! First Picasa didn't work out so went to Flickr and it refused to see my creation as a jpg so I now have a Photobucket account too! THEN it finally showed up WAAAAAY too large but thanks to SBA's comment about sizing it, it worked!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial. I'm another blogger who really wanted her own. Hopefully it links. Or if anyone really wants it, it can be cut & pasted.

I have learned so much from your tutorial but I have a problem. I manipulated an image in Photobucket editing and put my blog name on the pic. I copied your code then placed the DIRECT code of my new image where you instructed to put it and my blog address etc.
ReplyDeleteI get the little box at the bottom on my blog but a red X where my image should be. I have removed it because I don't want it sitting there with no pic.
Please tell me what I did wrong or did Photobucket do something to the code that interferred with yours. In PB I also made the image width 200 as you instructed so can't be that either.
Boohoo and I so want a button of my own.
Thanks Megan you are a great teacher!!!
Thanks to Shabby Blogs for Sharing!Happy Creating!Okay my button its not the most creative, but it is there. Ticket Graphic from The Graphics Fairy

Some I visited before finding yours was rather complicated to follow. Thank you for an easy to follow tutorial. Works on my blog perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI think that you have a great site and I love your designs that I've seen on other blogs. :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I would like to see is a tutorial on how to create a blog template from scratch, not based on someone else's basic template. Barring that, I would just be happy to find someone that would/could tell me how I need to save my images (format/size) for use as blog backgrounds/headers, etc. Every image that I've created and tried to use as a background on Blogger has visited wonky-ville instead of displaying nicely. :(
Keep up the great work!
I have just realized that if you take out the HTML before "<a border=" it should work. It worked for me!
ReplyDeleteExcellent tutorial! Thank you...I love your designs, you are very clever!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your tutorial - I have been so frustrated with other tutorials which didn't seem to work, and so close to giving up, but I found yours and voila it worked first time! THANK YOU
ReplyDeleteThank you for this tutorial. I love Shabbyblogs! I love doing graphics and would like to ad free backgrounds and stuff for people to use on a blog of my own. Do you have any tutorial on how it is done? What code to use and how to make it work?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tutorials! I would also like a tutorial on how to make a face book button, so I dont have to have the badge. Or if any one else knows how to do that.... I havent figured that one out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Crafty Pants. I know one way of doing it. If you use blogspot then you have the option of ading an url, for exampel the adress of your facebook account. This will make you image clickable. If you have to write your own code it should look something like this:
ReplyDeleteimg src="http://YOURBUTTON.jpg" href="http://YOURFACEBOOKACCOUNT.com" target="_blank"></img
I can't promise it will work but I do know that if you goggle your question you should find a code or tutorial you can use. :D
Hmmm.... The code didn't turn up as I wrote it. But you can find it in the example above. Just change it so that it directs to your Facebook account. I hope it helps some and doesn't confuses things... lol /Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lilian!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I might be the most blog helpless person there is!! I can't get this to work!!! UGH!
